Use AutoBlade Type A, SILH-BLADE-AUTO, for Cameo 3 or Portrait 2. Use Type B, SILH-BLADE-AUTO-2, for the charted newer generations such as Cameo 4, Cameo 5, Portrait 3, Portrait 4 and Curio 2.
Silhouette's store may group the two types under one AutoBlades page. Read the chosen type and item number before paying; a page listing several generations does not mean each variant fits them all.
The chart separates the generations
The official chart marks Type A and Type B on different machine columns. Compare the exact machine row with the reference, especially when buying second-hand machines or a multipack described only as an AutoBlade.
| Machine | AutoBlade type | Reference |
|---|---|---|
| Cameo 3; Portrait 2 | A | SILH-BLADE-AUTO |
| Cameo 4; Cameo 5 | B | SILH-BLADE-AUTO-2 |
| Portrait 3; Portrait 4; Curio 2 | B | SILH-BLADE-AUTO-2 |
Automatic depth still needs the right setup
The AutoBlade adjusts its exposure according to the setting sent by the software. Select the actual material and AutoBlade tool in the Send panel. It does not measure an unknown material and independently choose a guaranteed cut.
Seat the blade fully and secure the lock according to the machine instructions. If the tool is loose or sits above its intended position, increasing force can make diagnosis harder rather than correcting the installation.
Use a test cut before the full sheet
Place the blade over a clear part of the material and run the Test function in the Send panel. Inspect whether the small shape releases cleanly and whether the backing or mat has been cut too deeply. Adjust the smallest relevant setting and move to an unused spot for another test.
If the correct blade is installed but the selected action is unavailable, recheck the tool and material choices in the Send panel. A tool designed for another generation is not fixed by selecting a deeper setting.
