Find your cutting-machine generation before buying a tool

Cameo 3 versus Cameo 4, Joy versus Joy Xtra, and ScanNCut versus ScanNCut DX can change the correct order.

Copy the full model printed on the machine, including Air, Xtra, Plus, Pro, DX and any final letters. Keep a photograph of the rating label so you can compare it with a manual or support page later.

Use the machine name for compatibility and the part reference for shopping. A blade currently in the carriage may have been supplied second-hand, adapted or installed incorrectly.

Read the badge and the rating label

Start with the visible machine badge. Check the rear or underside label if the badge gives only a family name. Switch the machine off, unplug it and remove loose materials before moving it; do not rest it on its carriage or pull on a tool to turn it over.

On Brother machines, retain the full SDX code, such as SDX125E. On Silhouette machines, Cameo and Portrait each span several generations. With Cricut, Joy Xtra is a distinct machine even though some Joy blades are shared.

Use two numbers for two different questions

A model code identifies the cutter. An accessory item number identifies the product offered for sale. For example, SILH-BLADE-AUTO and SILH-BLADE-AUTO-2 are two AutoBlade references with different machine columns in Silhouette's chart. Neither reference replaces the need to identify the cutter.

A serial number identifies your individual machine. Keep it for registration or support rather than entering it as a blade or mat reference.

When a label is worn or the box is missing

Check the original receipt, registration account or downloaded manual, and compare the machine controls and badge with the manufacturer's identification information. If two generations remain possible, ask manufacturer support with photographs before opening a replacement pack.

An empty search result means the entered code has no established match in this catalogue. Check spelling and the manufacturer information instead of dropping a suffix to force a result.
