Choose CADXBLD1 for the ordinary ScanNCut DX Auto Blade and CADXHLD1 for its holder. For the Thin Fabric Auto Blade, use CADXBLDQ1 with CADXHLDQ1 instead. Brother explicitly says these holders do not accommodate the other blade.
The blade and holder are separate orders. If you only need a worn blade, inspect the existing holder before buying both components.
Match each blade to its holder
Brother lists the thin-fabric blade for quilting and appliqué fabrics without a fusible backing. The ordinary Auto Blade covers a broader list of materials, including paper, vinyl and some fabrics. Choose by the documented workflow, not by the apparent sharpness or colour of the edge.
| Cutting system | Blade reference | Holder or kit to check |
|---|---|---|
| Auto Blade | CADXBLD1 | CADXHLD1 |
| Thin Fabric Auto Blade | CADXBLDQ1 | CADXHLDQ1 |
| Rotary Auto Blade | CADXBLDR1 | CADXRBKIT1 when blade and housing are both needed |
Do not confuse the two vinyl-looking names
The Brother US page title for CADXBLD1 currently includes the word vinyl, but its body identifies the ordinary Auto Blade and requires CADXHLD1. The separately referenced Vinyl Auto Blade is CADXBLDV1. Compare the reference and the required holder or kit, rather than combining products with similar titles.
CADXBLDR1 is a rotary replacement blade without a housing. Brother directs users who need both components to CADXRBKIT1. A rotary blade cannot be placed into either of the straight-blade holders simply because all three products say DX.
Use the DX mat and test the actual fabric
Brother has a DX fabric mat and separate low-tack, standard and scanning mats. The scanning mat is for scanning and is not intended for cutting. Choose a cutting mat for the material and the machine before loading the blade.
Make a small test cut, especially for fabric. Material behaviour varies, so the advertised blade range is not a promise that every fabric at that thickness cuts successfully. If a holder is cracked or will not secure the blade, replace the damaged part rather than compensating with extra pressure.
